Thank you to everyone who attended our first book club meeting!
The next one will be February 29, which is a Thursday. Time and place TBA, but I’m thinking Bucktown or Logan Square since the last meeting was in Ravenswood. I’ll just keep moving progressively south until we end up with one in Hyde Park.
I have a few book ideas based on our discussion during the last meeting, but I’m going to open this up to suggestions and then we can do a vote. Ideally I would like to decide on the book by February 3rd, to give people enough time to read it.
Here are some ideas to get us started:
Convergence Culture by Henry Jenkins (2006) — 368 pages, nonfiction — if we choose this one (or any other non-fiction book), I may select specific chapters to lighten the reading load for people and help better direct the discussion.
The Sluts by Dennis Cooper (2004) — 304 pages, fiction
Negative Space by B.R. Yeager (2020) — 382 pages, fiction
For non-Chicago subscribers, while I brought our book club into meatspace, our movie club is still in cyberspace. The next one is tomorrow at 5pm CT/6pm ET via Discord. We’ll be screening Profile (2018).
I wrote “help” in the subject line because I know I had a lingering question for you all, but I don’t remember what it was. Probably like “how do I make my blog more aesthetic” or some shit like that. Um, feel free to leave generalized feedback in the comments because you guys know I love to ask the audience how I’m doing mid-show.
Is the book club meeting at the map room? What time is it going to be?
