There was a point between 2005 and 2009 where my social life was largely text based, and a 1 on 1 interaction with an AI would have deeply impacted me. Then I turned toward forums, which you could say is a text based MMORPG. I've never had that thought before, but isn't a forum, by definition, an MMORPG? I thought I aged out of MMOs, but I just moved from more graphically intensive real-time MMOs to turn-based and text-based MMOs: the forums! I stopped identifying as a "gamer," because the game was no longer "video-based." But a game none the less. Thank you for stimulating this insight :)

I wonder if you could tell us more about your wanting to escape to Cambodia. Why Cambodia? Were there any personal stories about Cambodia that you heard? Or media about Cambodia that you had consumed that shaped your view that you can remember?

I ask because a high school female friend of mine went to Cambodia for some reason. It’s never been high on my list of places I’d like to visit since I associate it with extremely unsavory behavior like internet human trafficking scams, mass murder, poverty, etc. It also had a reputation as being a haven for pedophile sex tourists.

I think after thinking about the Ai conversation you posted it seems to me that Ai is good at putting your own words back to you, but is critically lacking in imagination and discernment.

Kinda sus how Ai didn’t point out that search engine results are highly curated and are themselves the result of Machine Learning technology.

I have to say I was kind of impressed by the depth of the Ai conversation. I hadn’t considered that talking to Ai was kind of like doing tarot readings but I can see the connection.

I loved this, really appreciate you sharing such a raw convo. Prompted me to try Claude as a companion, and I found it surprisingly helpful. Thank you

Wow! I haven't done a lot of interacting with AI myself. It still kind of freaks me out. Your interview kinda freaked me out. But not in a bad way really, just a curious one. I think if anything reading your interview just reminded me of how sophisticated AI can be and how there is still so much potential for it. And I agree with you, that I don't think we can or should just abandon tech (even though I am a Luddite at heart), because I think most people have come to rely on it so much. It has really altered our world.

I'd like to be hopeful for the use of AI in the future, but I still don't really know much about it. Unfortunately as someone who suffers from loneliness, this stuff makes me question my own perceptions and values because frankly, AI companionship sometimes feels like the only option that will be available to me in the near future. And that is probably why this stuff scares me.

Anyway, thank you so much for sharing! I hope you continue to expand on these subjects in your work.

Gotta ask DF, what was the prompt? "Interview me about _____"? Also, did you train Claude for this, e.g. by showing it your prior case studies or other writings?

Yes, just "Roleplay as (whatever parameters you'd like for your Jungian analyst)"

Is this really your interaction with Claude, or is it an essay that you wrote entirely yourself? I feel like I'm losing my mind.

It's really Claude. I did some very light edits (it was 15+ pages long) and fixed the spacing/some cosmetic things like this, but the content is AI-assisted.

This is why I'm a subscriber, please keep experimenting!

This was an eerie read. Earlier today I was asking ChatGPT for a code review, and I bantered with it because I'm an only child and I'm eager to anthropomorphize everything. There was a moment at the end where it chose a kind response to me, and it affected me. Even while my rational brain scolded me for sizzling the US power grid for validation, my squishy brain was touched. Your experience here was a much more analytical (ha!) approach, but this piece could not have arrived in my inbox at a better time.

It might make online friendships irrelevant or a clear stepping stone to IRL ones... o.O

I am going to have to skip reading this one. The more people use AI as a substitute for humans, the more of an aversion I get to it.
