Ten bucks to whoever can guess what it’s about from the stills.
I didn’t love the color palette that we chose. I really wanted it to look more sickly and muted, I even floated the idea of it just being CCTV footage.
The original venue I chose was all in pastels, a weird little Ukrainian apartment in Fresh Meadows. I did not win the fight against the DP who was clearly, uh, In the Mood for Love, if you will. This color palette/lighting was really in vogue at the time that we shot it.
I wish I stood my ground more. Maybe one day I’ll try to make a film again?
Is this filmed in Queens? I hope the crew got some good falafel. And piroshki. I don’t know if you’ve seen the facial close-ups in Hiroshima Mon Amour but the stills give off “the less dialogue the better” vibe, i.e. that the cinematography is telling the story.
I’m tempted to go cynical again and guess that a) the guy in the first shot is returning to the Marina District in San Francisco, or b) the AC broke in New York in August, but judging by everyone else’s pissed off or sorrowful faces, I’m assuming the noir-esque plot - dim lighting, fan - runs a little deeper than that.
The Cambodian crooning is also more soulful and melancholy than the Indian rock in Ghost World.
default. you have so many talents
thank you T_T
